Ragi or Finger Millet - Its Health Benefits and Fast Sugar
These deep red pearls called Ragi or finger millet are rich in nutrients. Cereals that I may know about later in life. Until then rags or rag fingers were used to decorate my dried flower pot for a long time.
It was only when I arrived in South India that I
noticed the gold mines of the elements. Since then it has continued to occupy
the most desirable place at my dining table. I love the sweet smell of the
earth of this powerful grain.
Health Benefits:-
It is a good source of fiber in the diet.
Ragi has a low Glycemic Index that slows down
digestion thus keeping blood sugar levels stable. Ragi is certainly a blessing
for people with diabetes.
Ragi is rich in many minerals such as thiamine,
iron, and calcium.
It works as a good laxative for constipation.
Ragi is rich in carbohydrates and saturated fats,
which can help control obesity.
Ragi malt can be a great place for people who
suffer from milk allergies.
Wise ways to incorporate Ragi into the diet;
Ragi can be ground and used in baking and making
puddings.
Porridge made from Ragi powder is a very
refreshing breakfast.
Soups and vegetable broth can be prepared using
Ragi flour.
Many Indian desserts like Halwa and Barfi can be
made with Ragi.

This is a simple and healthy dessert made from
ragi flour. The process involves making Ragi Puttu first and then preparing the

Alternatively, you can burn Ragi flour in any
vessel if you do not have a Putu maker. Put the crushed rag flour in a small
bowl and keep it inside the pressure cooker with a little water and simmer for
4-5 minutes. Take it out and continue making dessert.
Ingredients:-
1 cup hot Ragi flour
1/2 cup crushed coconut
1/2 cup sugar/jaggery powder
1/2 tsp. cardamom powder
3-4 tsp. of crushed almonds
Method: Take hot Ragi flour and mix it with other
ingredients. Serve hot.
